Vintage Sewing Patterns for Adorable Dresses: Nostalgic Sewing Fun

After raising a family of all boys (which I absolutely loved!) I am enjoying getting to sew for my precious granddaughters! Sewing frilly dresses and ruffles is a lot of fun!

One of the things I really enjoy collecting and sewing is vintage patterns. Not only do I love the vintage designs, but I like the straight forward directions of older patterns. This may be my opinion, but they always seem easier to read and follow than some of the modern patterns. There is also a lot of nostalgia for me as my mom had some of the same patterns that she used to sew for me when I was a little girl.

This sweet little dress was sewn from a 1966 Simplicity pattern. I chose an apple print cotton fabric with a coordinating purple polka dot for the bib. I absolutely loved the way it turned out! The pattern was a perfect fit through the body, although I added some length to achieve the length I wanted. Overall I loved how it turned out and it looked adorable on her. She chose to wear it for her kindergarten graduation.

Another favorite vintage sew was this sweet dress I made for Valentine’s Day. This was a Simplicity 1991 pattern that I found in my collection. Although it was super easy, the finished product was adorable. I choose a red and pink floral/heart fabric with coordinating red and white hearts for the accents (ruffle and pockets). She wore it with an undershirt because it turned off quite chilly. You never know what weather you’ll get in south Mississippi! lol!!!
